Q
.   What age of child is the fence designed to keep out of the pool area?

A.   The fencing system is designed to protect children up to the age of 4 years.

Q.   What is the best location for the fence to be installed?

A.   Whilst there are no hard and fast guidelines in the Canaries at the moment, we recommend that the fence is installed a minimum of 1 metre away from the water's edge. The most important element is that there are no access points to the pool directly from the house or garden, so the location will depend on the garden and pool area in relation to the house. For these reasons, we recommend that you take advantage of our free safety assessment.

Q.   Can this fence be installed into grass or other surfaces?

A.   Yes, our fencing system can be installed into your lawn, artificial grass or picon. You have the option of having concrete pads laid beneath an artificial grass or picon surface, or using a 24" (0.6m) 'dirtspike' in place of the sleeve used in tiled installations. The dirtspike is driven into the lawn and the top of the dirtspike acts as the receptor sleeve for the stainless steel rod. The pros and cons of each option will be discussed prior to any order.

Q.   How big are the holes which would be drilled into my terrace and what would they look like when the fence is not in place?

A.  The holes for our Premier fencing system are 5/8" (16mm) in diameter and approximately 4" (10cm) deep. When the fence is removed, the holes are covered with the protective caps supplied with each fence.

Q.   How strong is the fence?

A.   A 200lb (approx. 90Kg) adult can lean against the fence, but please remember that it is designed to protect children, not adults!

Q.   How safe are the fence and gate?

A.   The mesh surface does not allow finger or toe holds, thus making our fence one of the least climbable fences available. There are no gaps at the bottom of the fence for a child to squeeze though. The self-closing gate, in addition to having no top cross bar, has sloping hinges to prevent children from gaining a foothold and pulling themselves up.
However, no system is 100% absolute. It is imperative for parents and guardians to understand that no system is a substitute for adult supervision.

Q.   How is the fence kept clean?

A.   Simply by hosing it down! Much easier to keep clean than a perspex or glass fencing option, which in the dusty, windy Canarian climate can quite easily lose its' transparency! If necessary, a mild detergent can be used to remove any spots.

Q.   Is it easy to remove the fence and how long does it take?

A.   Removal is very easy for an average adult, requiring height, strength and leverage which young children don't posess. Take a look at our video demonstration to see how quickly and simply it can be taken down and put back up. Removal takes approximately 10 minutes for a fence which is 15m long.

Q.   What are the poles made of? Do they rust?

A.   The poles are made of marine grade T6 aluminium, reinforced internally with Schedule 80 PVC pipe and a stainless steel pin. Nothing on this fence can rust.

Q.   What is the life expectancy of the fence? Does it come with a warranty?

A.   The fence comes with a lifetime manufacturer's warranty for the original owner against defects in materials and workmanship. The installation of the fence is guaranteed for a period of 12 months by Peace of Mind Pool Safety, Canarias. However, as we cannot know what the foundations of the site are like ie. the ground may be unstable and move with time or there may be a potential of flooding etc., we do not guarantee the full base work for more than 6 months.

Q.   Does the fence also protect animals? How would it hold up against a big dog?

A.   Although this particular fence is not designed to protect animals, it can prevent, for example, a small dog from falling into your pool. The Premier pool safety fencing can be damaged by a larger animal, but we can provide a fence with a special type of mesh which is very pet resistant. This is a Guardian safety fencing product with a patent pending - please enquire for more information.

Q.   How quickly would my fence be here if I placed an order?

A.   This would depend on your choice of height and/or colour. If we have the fence in stock, we will be able to provide you with a delivery/installation date as soon as you place your order. If we would need to place a special order with our supplier in California, we can normally get the fence here and installed within 4 weeks.

Q.   How do I place an order and what payment methods do you accept?

A.   The normal process is for you to contact us, either by telephone or email, to arrange a time where we can assess & measure up your pool area. We would then provide you with a no obligation quotation, including installation if required. If you place an order, we require 50% deposit and the balance would be payable within 7 days of installation. We accept payment in Euros by cash, Paypal, debit or credit card.

Q.   If I wanted to install a fence myself, what equipment would I need?

A.   A rotary drill (preferably SDS), 5/8" (16mm) masonary drill bits, tape measure, electricians tape and a few small hand tools (please see Installation page). Easy installation instructions are provided with every order, including an instructional DVD. All necessary hardware for the fence and gate is included for installation into your terrace.

Q.   How much does the fence cost?

A.   Purchase: Our standard price is 80 per linear metre and 500 for our patented self-closing gate, but we do have a variety of discount options, depending on the length of fence required. There is also a 'showhouse' discount available and we occasionally also offer free installation. Please email us for a full price list which includes all current discounts available.

A.   Buy Now, Pay from Holiday Rental Income: You can have a safety fence installed but   in this case, no discounts apply and the payment terms are 50% payable when the order is placed, with the balance payable in either 3 or 4 instalments, as and when you require the fence to be put up.

e.g. If the total cost of the fence is 1000€, then you would pay 500€ when you place your order and then either 166.67€ on the next 3 occasions that you use the fence or 125.00€ on the next 4 occasions that you use the fence.

This means that each time you achieve a booking from a family with young children who ask for the fence, you are paying for your fence from money received from bookings. The fence would remain our property until the final payment is made.

A.   Hire Option: In this case there is a charge for installation of 8€ per metre plus the cost of any additional materials required (e.g. in the case of installation into grass/picon or other soft surface, the installation would require the use of dirtspikes &/or concrete).

You are then in a position where you can advertise your villa with a child-safe pool (including photos which we will supply) and you can hire a safety fence from us as and when required at a cost of 5€ per panel* per week. If at any point you then wished to purchase a safety fence from us, we would provide you with an up to date quotation.

Of course, to minimise the cost to yourself even more, you could charge a weekly fee to your guests if they wish to take advantage of the pool safety fence. One of our customers hired out his fence to guests for 75 Euro per week!

* a panel is 0.91m (3ft) in length
